Temple Antics

Temple Antics is a solitaire single page roll and write adventure board game.

SUMMARY

You are an adventurer stranded on a legendary cursed island. Starting from your parachute you have to work your way across the island. If you can recover the cursed idol from the temple and reach the plane before sun falls you will escape and lift the curse.

Each turn you will move into a new tile, drawing the walls as you move. You'll also face an encounter that could help or hinder your progress. As the sun rises and sets the island will grow more deadly. If you run out of health or the sun sets (after 18 turns) you will die on the island.

COMPONENTS

Game is designed to be printed and played from a single sheet of A4/Letter. It's a roll and write so eight D6 and pen will also be required.

PLAY TIME

Solo game, expected playtime is 10-20 minutes

DESIGNER NOTES

Originally designed for Board Game Geek's 2019 Solitaire Print and Play Contest.

This is my first attempt at board game design, my background is in video game design and production. I've got an interest in developing roll & writes because I like working within the simplistic limitations. So for my first game I intentionally picked something fairly simple.

My primary design inspirations for Temple Antics is "Zombies in my Pocket". It's such a simple game but I found it quite fun for a few runs and I wondered if you could recreate that experience in roll & write format. One of the mods for ZimP re-themed it as an Indiana Jones style adventure and that appealed to me a lot more than zombies so I went with that too.

I was hoping the choice of assigning dice between two options and choosing your direction of travel would give it enough interesting decisions, and not feel entirely random. We'll see how well that goes.
